The crisscross molding design on the Essex is reminiscent of Tudor style windows. The “Flip Top” Creden-ZzZ style cabinet bed gives sleepers more headroom while keeping a low, easy to-use top surface. Simply slide items to the back to flip open the top. Latches and safety chain are hidden inside for a clean exterior. The solid sleeping platform makes a comfortable bed — no springs, no rolling to the middle, and no “bar-in-your-back.” A comfortable six-inch mattress is hidden inside. The space saving bed fits almost anywhere taking only 11 square feet of floor space. It is easy to open and close and provides real-bed comfort. It has a roomy storage drawer and a USB port. Constructed of solid wood, plywood and features robust hardware. Now that's a smart way to live!

The mattress is constructed of two foam layers. The top two inches are a soft high resilient foam and the bottom four inches are a dense foam that keeps the sleeper from bottoming out.
